Post-It Notes and Sellotape

This blog has recently changed purposes accidentally. I used to use it as a Writing-Journal, but since then I’ve used it as more of a place to put to do lists. I still intend to do this as I think it’s useful for getting myself organized, but I’m going to make it more themed around my school life and my personal organization, meaning this will be a ‘personal blog’ with a strong English/Philosophy/Creative Writing theme, most likely.

If you find it interesting, please feel free to follow/remain a follower, but this blog is more for myself than for followers.

I wish I’d had Vonnegut as a professor. Legend.

I've Almost Cracked Him: Writing Tips from C.S. Lewis

hannamercado:

  1. Always try to use the language so as to make quite clear what you mean and make sure your sentence couldn’t mean anything else.
  2. Always prefer the plain direct word to the long, vague one. Don’t implement promises, but keep them.
  3. Never use abstract nouns when concrete ones…

"This sentence has five words. Here are five more words. Five-word sentences are fine. But several together become monotonous. Listen to what is happening. The writing is getting boring. The sound of it drones. It’s like a stuck record. The ear demands some variety. Now listen. I vary the sentence length, and I create music. Music. The writing sings. It has a pleasant rhythm, a lilt, a harmony. I use short sentences. And I use sentences of medium length. And sometimes, when I am certain the reader is rested, I will engage him with a sentence of considerable length, a sentence that burns with energy and builds with all the impetus of a crescendo, the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals—sounds that say listen to this, it is important."

This might be my favourite quote on writing ever.

Daniel Dalton: Why you should buy a copy of The Sensualist by Daniel Torday

wordsbydan:

Every heard of Daniel Torday? Nope, me neither. At least I hadn’t, until I happened upon the website of independent publisher Nouvella books.

This was back in February. Since then I’ve spoken to him a couple of times on Twitter. He’s nice. The head of Creative Writing at a college in…

Just bought myself a copy of this :)

Ace, King Queen: Structure and Timeline.

In my last post, I set several deadlines.

Two of them were…

Fixing the timeline with all existing events: 20th June 2011

Plan new events, plots and cons into this new time frame: 23rd June 201

I believe that I have now completed both of these. Whilst I am not entirely happy with the way that a load of cons seem to happen towards the end without the great detail of the initial few but, for now, I can’t see any way round that. When this draft is finished, if the wordcount is still low, I may revisit this issue.
But for now, I am on track. :)

Ace, King, Queen Editing Deadlines.

I find deadlines very useful for my writing, as it puts me in the state of mind in which I get things done. I am publicly posting these, and then adding posts to my queue with these specific dates to check on myself that I’ve actually done the tasks. Any support would be gratefully received.
